The Geysir Clubhouse works according to the Fountain House ideology which is founded on the systematic build-up of the individual’s talents and aptitude.

It is our belief that in giving each member the chance to use his strength and ability we are training him to participate in society in a multifarious way.

The inner structure of the Clubhouse model is to uphold mutual support and respect. By helping and supporting others, one gets help oneself.

To be in control of and take responsibility for ones own life is a fundamental need in each person’s life. If this need is thwarted in any way, for example by a mental illness, ones self-esteem may diminish and self-respect smoother.

Therefore we emphasize positive attitude and capturing the strength of the individual instead of focusing on the illness of the individual and the accompanying stigma.

In the Club the members are not under pressure to do more than they want to. The Club emphasizes caring and improving social skills, therefore there is a need for every individual.
